The artistic expression of Erik-Jan van der Schuur (Hellendoorn, NL, -) relates to this World, origin of humankind, religion, death, injustice and his thoughts about these subjects. How does mankind comprehend it, what’s his part in this and what are his thoughts about it? This subject matter religion, human nature and societal events are going to be combined, criticized, approached and tackled. His subject matter and medium started from his youth. Van der Schuur was raised religiously (protestant) and drew a lot when he was a child. Drawing also proved to be one of his main interests in his artictic career. At the academy ArtEZ Zwolle Van der Schuur further explored multiple 2D disciplines: drawing, painting, etching, animation and mixed media techniques. Through philosophy he gained an open mind and interest in multiple subjects but my main focus is on Christianity and societal events. Van der Schuur is very interested in religious dimensions other than we know or live in, for example: the dimension where Lucifer (when Satan was still an Angel) and God had conversations or discussions, the dimension before the existence of the world universe, the dimension after death.
